Finding the right support shouldn't be this hard

You've done the hard work. You've made a life-changing decision, and now you're navigating a whole new emotional landscape that most therapists aren't trained to handle.

Not every therapist understands the unique psychological weight of bariatric surgery: the complicated relationship with food, the identity shifts, the family dynamics, the grief that can coexist with relief. You deserve someone who gets all of it without judgment.

You're not alone and you don't

have to search alone, either.

“This directory changed everything!”

"After bariatric surgery, I felt completely lost emotionally, my surgeon didn't have answers and my regular therapist didn't understand. Finding a bariatric therapist through this directory changed everything."

Susan

“I only wish I had found this resource sooner”

“As a bariatric patient, I didn’t realize how important specialized mental health support could be. The directory connected me with a therapist who understood everything from pre-op anxiety to long-term lifestyle changes. I only wish I had found this resource sooner.”

Michael

“I was able to connect with a provider who was exactly what I needed.”

“Finding a therapist who accepted my insurance and understood bariatric surgery felt impossible until I found this directory. The search process was simple, and I was able to connect with a provider who was exactly what I needed. Highly recommend it to anyone on a bariatric journey.”

This directory was created by Ashlyn Douglass-Barnes, LCSW, a licensed clinical social worker, ASMBS member, and bariatric patient who is 13+ years post-op.

After her own surgery, Ashlyn found herself frustrated by the lack of mental health support that truly understood the bariatric experience. She couldn't find a therapist who got it, so she became one and then built the resource she wished had existed.

As the self-proclaimed "unofficial misinformation dispeller" of bariatric mental health, Ashlyn brings both clinical expertise and lived experience to everything in this directory. Every therapist listed here has been vetted with care.
